Minimum Statutory Requirements for Judicial Candidates

Term: Six years (OH Const Art. IV, §6, R.C. 2503.02, 2503.03)

Qualifications

Maximum Age:
70 years (OH Const Art. IV, §6)

Residency Requirement:
Must be a qualified elector residing in Ohio (R.C. 2701.04, OH Const Art. XV, §4)

Legal Experience:
Must be admitted to practice as an attorney in this state and have, for a total of at least six years before the term begins, been engaged in the practice of law in Ohio or served as a judge of a court of record in any jurisdiction in the U.S., or both. (R.C. 2503.01)
