The Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association was formed in March 2008, and unified the Cleveland Bar Association and the Cuyahoga County Bar Association.
The Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association was one of the first bar associations in the nation, predating the Ohio State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. In addition to its lawyer services, the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association serves the public with a Lawyer Referral Service, and a variety of pro bono and public service projects including the award-winning 3R's program, that works in high schools of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District to improve understanding of and respect for the rule of law and our Constitution, improve passage of the Ohio Graduation Test, and provide practical career counseling to focus students on their potential beyond high school.
The Cuyahoga Criminal Defense Lawyers Association was formed in the mid-1970's exclusively for charitable, scientific and educational purposes. Its diverse members have frequent contact with all of the judges in Cuyahoga County, including Municipal, Common Pleas, Appellate and Federal Courts, as well as The Ohio Supreme Court.
While membership is most often drawn from those with criminal law practices, the overwhelming majority of members are engaged in the general practice of law, both civil and criminal.
The Norman S. Minor Bar Association, founded in 1980, is the Cleveland-area African American bar association. An affiliate of the National Bar Association, NSMBA's mission includes working toward eradication of prejudice in the application of the law and in the legal community at large, and providing professional and social opportunities focused toward Cleveland's African American lawyers.
The Ohio Women's Bar Association is a state-wide bar association that brings together women and men lawyers interested in issues that uniquely affect women.
